Technical Difficulties Redux - OGR

DESCRIPTION

For my Premise Project, I will be creating an animation in the style of "Creature Comforts", but instead of animals, different pieces of Technology from various eras will be interviewed, being asked what they feel about the modern state of Tech and how it affects them personally. The Characters within this piece will be an Old-Fashioned Cash Register and TV, who reside in an Antique shop and are very stuck in their ways, a DVD Remote and TV Remote, who live in a modern suburban home and are vary wary of services like Netflix and Amazon Prime putting them out of business, and an OBS Machine in a London Hospital, who weighs up the pros and cons of Digital vs Physical patient records.

TV COLOUR KEYS

These are the Colour Keys I have produced for my TV Character. I will more than likely go for the more dull, drowsy brown/beige colours, as they fit the character and the scene much better, although perhaps going for a lighter or more playful colour will provide a necessary contrast in the scene.

MARSH ANTIQUES EXTERIOR + INTERIOR

This is the first Exterior shot I have created of the Antique shop, which the TV and Cash Register Characters will be situated in. I have drawn it at this particular angle so that the image is slightly more dynamic, rather than just being a more boring, flat-on image. I will create other angles of the exterior to cut between when visiting this location.

These are the first two interior shots of the Antique Shop that I have created. They show an ornate wooden box, and a Metal Jug. I have created these shots to add something in to catch the viewer's attention, otherwise, like with the aforementioned flat shot of the exterior, it would be particularly boring, and would not draw them in to the scene.

ANIMATIC EXCERPT

Technical Difficulties Animatic Redux OGR from Joe Warrilow on Vimeo.

I am working through creating an Animatic for my piece. Following feedback from Alan, I have used cuts between wide shots and close-ups to help keep the audeinces attention, rather than just leaving the piece "flat" - I will also be trying to think of ways to make the characters mve as I go along. For The Cash Register and TV, they will most likely stick with the "Squash & Stretch" style of animation, whereas the Remotes will roll on their respective surfaces and use their faces more.

  1. Joe – I apologise but I’m going to repeat myself in this feedback. Simply put, there is not enough work in this OGR to convince me that you are using all the time available. I can’t see any evolution in your work (even with an improved animatic), and there is no character design (colour keys?). You’ve also been on the course long enough to know what and OGR looks like – PDF doc, history of your project, the evolution and refinement, future plans etc.
Joe you have had this idea for over a year why is there such a small amount of work? Is it because you don’t understand what you need to do next? Do you need help? Both Phil and I have offered that on multiple occasions. All I can add is that any work you submitted last year (Premise first attempt) cannot be re-assessed. Furthermore, the agreement was that you could only continue with this project if you were going to put the effort into radically improving it. To put your work into context I am including a link below to a ‘character design’ bible to help you understand why you are getting this feedback and what is expected of you at this level.
